I’m having issues when it comes to my birthday cake this year. Serious issues. And for something as trivial as a cake, I feel this shouldn’t be happening.
First off, I for some reason had my heart set on an ice cream cake. I have no idea why. Maybe it’s all the ice cream I’ve been eating since surgery. I was thinking Red Velvet cake with Cookies n Cream ice cream. It sounds pretty delish in my personal opinion. Turns out neither Baskin Robins nor Dairy Queen do Red Velvet. Next stop on the cake hunt: Cold Stone.
And there it was: the perfect cake. Cake Batter Confetti….offering layers of moist red velvet cake, Cake Batter™ ice cream and rainbow sprinkles wrapped in a fluffy white frosting.

YUM.
Too bad the location of my party will not allow ice cream cakes.
I’m pissed. Or sad. No, disappointed. That’s the word. I mean LOOK at that cake! It looks so yummy, and it’s the exact description of what I wanted plus KitKat pieces to boot! So let’s go with another option I guess, since I already entered into a binding contract in terms of location of this party.
Plan B: Cupcakes.
So rather than me baking a batch of cupcakes, I was thinking I would just buy some. It’s for my birthday after all, and I kinda just want to be lazy and not put forth a ton of effort. So I checked out Yelp for some recommendations. Turns out there’s quite a few cupcakeries in my area to choose from. However, it seems that the going price per cupcake is $3. While I do think $3 per cupcake is a bit outrageous, if you’re going and getting one as a snack I think it’s OK. Like if you went to a cafe for a snack of that size you would be spending at least that. So it’s reasonable I suppose. I also think you should get a discount if you order in bulk. Like two dozen should be like $50 right? Maybe $55. Whatever the price, there should be a discount! But no. It’s $3/cupcake, $36/dozen. So if I want 2 dozen it’s gonna be $72. At that price I might as well just get a full cake. In fact, I think a fancy cake would actually be cheaper and would give me more food per dollar spent.
So now I’m looking at cakes. But I just moved and don’t know the bakeries in this neighborhood. I might just suck it up and go with cupcakes since that’s more interesting than a generic cake of some sort. I guess all that’s left to be done is to go on a cupcake tasting spree.
And that sounds like quite a good time to me
