Amazing

I’m kinda hungry, and was just sent this picture:

ClassicWisconsinGrilledCheese-hr

Um….yeah now I’m starving. Look at this perfectly cooked piece of bread and cheese perfection. YUM. Who wants to make me one of these, grilled to exactly that color?

Thanks :)

The 43 United States of America

J and I were having a discussion the other night about the states in the US. I’m not sure how this came about, but we realized that somehow despite being citizens raised in the US, we didn’t think we could identify all the countries on the map.

So we took a challenge: We printed out 2 copies of the US map. It had the states drawn in, and we gave ourselves 15 minutes to write in all the names. No list of states either – everything had to be done from memory.

I filled in as many as I could off the top of my head. Some were easy – like Hawaii, Alaska, Florida, Texas, and of course the west coast. Then I had to stop and think. Is New Mexico the one closer to Texas, or is that Arizona? Is Kansas on top of Nebraska or below it? I counted up the number I was 100% confident of and it came out to exactly 25. So 25 hopefully good guesses here I come!

About halfway through the 15 minutes I had filled in a good majority of them, but there were 10 I still couldn’t identify. I mean, let’s face it. I’ve been to NY once. Recently. I’ve never been anywhere else on the Northeastern seaboard. And I’ve never learned the shapes of those states (some states are easily identified by their shape – Kentucky looks like a chicken leg, Louisiana is an L, etc) because they’re so freaking tiny that there’s just a bunch of arrows pointing to them.

I did my best, but after 13 minutes I stopped. I had filled in 43 states and left the other 7 blank. Yes, I could only name 43 of the 50 states off the top of my head.

Spiders

I am afraid of spiders.

Well that’s an understatement. I’m terrified of spiders. Caro + spider = panic attack.

Because I’m OCD, I’ve divided spiders into 3 categories: “daddy long-legs”, “the chunky kind”, and “other”. To clarify, the “chunky kind” are those black ones that have thick bodies and short legs. These are some quick motherf*ers, so killing them on first sight is a must. We can’t have them getting away! Since these are the 2 most commonly seen kinds, all the rest go into the “other” category, which is rarely used but includes: the clearish ones, the yellow ones, and black widows. Rare, yes, but BW’s have to be accounted for even though I’ve never seen one. Now all of these categories of arachnid used to produce the same result: Caro shrieking and freaking out until the spider was dead or otherwise removed from sight.

Lately though, I’ve made peace with some of these 8 legged creatures. One grouping at a time of course. Daddy long-legs and I can get along just fine. I no longer run for the hills, screaming like a little school girl when I see these creatures. I’ve also gotten to a point where I can calm myself down when I see the chunky kind and can remain in my house if one gets away. I rarely see the other kinds, so whatever. Spiders and I are ok. Neutral, like the Swiss.

Until last week.

New Toy!

I work with salary figures and other confidential information. Sometimes I print stuff that either I keep for a while then need to discard, or realize I just don’t need altogether. In these cases, I don’t want to recycle that stuff. So I started a shred pile. There’s one shredder in my building, 3 stories down. It’s in a room that’s basically the size of a coat closet on an isolated hallway. Needless to say, I don’t like going there much.

So I don’t.

This leaves me with an ever growing pile of stuff to shred. This pile recently became so massive that I decided it was time to ask my boss if I could buy a shredder. Simple enough, and he said yes. Score!

I was looking for something inexpensive but durable. Like would shred credit cards and an occasional staple. And at least 8-10 pages at a time. I sorted through our work  catalog and settled on one – the Corporate Express CEBC12.

It arrived today, so I decided to open it and have a shredding party.

OMG SCORE. This machine is a BEAST! First and foremost, it shreds up to 12 pages at a time. It also does CDs and credit cards. It has a really awesome slide out drawer for all my shreddings (makes it super easy to empty!). Oh and it has 3 lights when its on: Ready, Overheating, Overloaded. So you know when you’re doing something wrong BEFORE you break the machine. YES! (This feature is particularly important for me)

Last but not least, this thing came with wheels. And these wheels have brakes. Like, let me roll my awesome shredder over to me, then brake it so it doesn’t roll away while in use. Who thinks of these things? Hahaha

I do realize that I just raved about a shredder for several paragraphs, but I don’t care. So far, this thing is totally rave-worthy!

Top Tier Television

After a long summer hiatus from quality programming on television, it seems that things are back in full force! I realize now that there are WAY too many good shows on and I know I’m missing out on a bunch of really awesome ones. Like Modern Family. I’ve heard it’s great, but I never added it to my TiVo, and thus it’s not a part of my weekly routine. And I’m behind anyway. Downloading shows and catching up on multiple seasons is such a pain in the ass, so I think I’m going to spend my winter break catching up on what I can. Like marathon days in front of the television.

So here’s the list of shows I’m addicted to and watching religiously:

Lost & Found

I hate losing things, and I have lost several things lately. First my credit card. I lost this during a rare drunken evening (I guess that’s why I don’t drink much these days!), but I guess that’s just a casualty of a fun night out. And it’s easily replaced so I guess it’s not too bad, just a slight inconvenience. Yeah, my credit card company ROCKS.

Apparently not all lost items are that easily replaced. Take for instance my birth control.

I bought a new pack last Sunday and started taking it that day. For some (stupid) reason, I didn’t put the pack in my medicine cabinet. Instead, I put it back in the box it came in. Then I left this box on the kitchen counter. Monday night rolls around and I go to take the next pill.

But where did it go?
