Stress and Whatnot

Why is it that when I have to deal with something tedious and out of the ordinary, it’s never just one problem at a time? I’m going to go on a long rant here!

On 1/4, the first business day of 2010, I found several problems that needed to be tackled:

1. My student loan consolidation is taking forever. It’s well beyond the 30-45 days it “typically” takes. I called to find out what’s up with that and apparently they’re waiting on one lender. Called up the lender, who said they sent the info. Twice. Oh and it doesn’t help that another one of my lenders bought out a loan from a third lender in the middle of all this (do you see why I’m attempting to consolidate!). Awesome. I spoke with a lady who didn’t speak English (Side note: How is this possible? I pressed “1″ to continue my call in English. The TOEFL should be a requirement for those dealing with customer service that is to be provided in English. Anyway that’s not the point.) I tried back later and spoke to Shaqueeta, who definitely spoke English. Hopefully that shit is fixed now. I can’t be dealing with this for weeks and weeks!!

2. I switched to a new medical insurance for 2010, and apparently my new health insurance requires some sort of doctor’s authorization for one of the prescriptions I have. Isn’t the prescription authorization enough?? Apparently not. And since my insurance changed, my doctor kept calling the WRONG insurance company to duke it out. I ended up spending almost $200 out of pocket on my prescription with the hopes that it would be reimbursed.

Update: YES. It was approved. I’m getting a refund. That’s 2 less numbers to call on a daily basis (the insurance and the doctor). Weeeee.

3. I got my first paycheck of the year. They charged me for my medical, dental and vision plans at the part-time employee rate. That’s like $150 more per pay period than full-time employees get charged. Somehow they got this right the very first paycheck after I switched to full time, but only updated the records for 2009. Did they think I would work full-time for a month or two then go back in 2010? The lady I talked to was NOT helpful. I want my money! Especially since I’m already having a hellish time dealing with the insurance company (see #2).

Update: Finally heard back almost 2 weeks later. I don’t know how it took them that long to see that yes, I do work 40 hours a week, but whatever it’s done with. Last paycheck was a little light, next one is going to be straight Christmas for my bank account.

While none of these issues would have been fun to deal with by themselves, I was stuck on my first week back from a “vacation” working 60 hours and dealing with this crap ALL AT ONCE. What a pain in the ass!

  1. [...] I’ve already bored you with a portion of the consolidation drama. What a pain in the ass. Now that I’m in repayment and everything is “set”, this [...]
