Butter

Yeah, that’s exactly how my skin feels at the moment!! Talk about glory, especially when my skin had previously been having some alligator-like dryness issues.

A friend of mine is getting married in less than two weeks, and I have the honor of being a bridesmaid. The story of how I came to be the one responsible for throwing a bachelorette party is not relevant at this time (although it was stressful!), but I’m quite satisfied with the outcome.

My friend decided she wanted a spa day…. at Burke Williams (she had a gift card). Quite expensive to say the least, but in the end it was so worth it. While the other girls decided they all wanted massages, I decided to do something different. After all, J gave me a membership to a different spa for Chrismakkah, and I still have 2 massages left on that! I ended up going with the Parafango Treatment, mostly because the first sentence describes it as “The ultimate moisturizing experience.” Yes please!

Since I’ve never had anything done to me at a spa outside of the typical massage or mani/pedi, I was unsure how this worked. Let me tell you, it was quite an experience! First I got naked an laid under a towel on top of some wax-like paper on a table. The woman put on some exfoliating gloves and literally scrubbed me. It felt like sandpaper and although I knew it was coming, I was concerned that this might not be the right treatment for me after all. Let’s face it, I have sensitive skin.

Once she had scrubbed the crap out of my skin to her satisfaction, she scrubbed me with hot salt. It felt kinda nice, although definitely still kind of rough. Then she took a brush and painted my entire backside with mud. Awesome! I flipped over for the front, and definitely STUCK to the wax-like paper. So strange. Repeat on front. I must say that while I”m glad my tits didn’t get sandpapered, I’m kind of sad that this treatment didn’t include the girls. Oh well.

Once I was painted in mud on both sides, the woman wrapped the wax paper around me like a cocoon, then wrapped me in some sort of really thick blanket thing that apparently I was laying on too. While the mud soaked into my skin, I got a facial. The description on the website lists it as a “mini-facial” but I would disagree. She did everything I would expect from a full length facial, and then some. Also, mini facials don’t usually include extractions. This woman did magical things to my pores, including excising all kinds of shit from them. She put a mask on me, and then helped me up into my robe.

We walked to the shower, where I was instructed to rinse off the extra salt. This stuff was NASTY looking. Like boogers or…uh, something else. And it was hard to get off too, especially since I wasn’t allowed to use soap, but I managed. (Side note: the showers at Burke Williams are phenomenal. Like the size of my bathroom with three shower heads blasting at various parts of your body. LOVE IT!)

After the shower/rinse off, we headed back to the treatment room, where I received a full body massage. She rubbed some sort of amazing lotion into my skin, and it was awesome. This lasted for quite a long time, maybe 20 or 30 minutes? And then it was over, and I was given a nice clean robe to put on.

I cannot say enough good things about this treatment. It’s 2 days later and I still feel like butter. Like, I used to dread taking showers because I would be so uncomfortably dry and scaly afterwards, even with gallons of lotion. So far, this has completely altered that. I hope it continues for a while, mostly cuz I don’t have another $150 to spend on this treatment for a while. Sooooooooo worth the money, and after wedding season is all over I plan to get another!!
