Receipt

Reasons you shouldn’t clean out your wallet at work, even if you are on break:

I just found the (insanely expensive) parking receipt from the hospital from the day my great uncle died. Now I’m sad.

As much as it blows my mind that I paid $24 to park for like 6 hours, $24 to be with him when he died seems like a bargain.

I think I’ll keep this in my wallet. Hopefully next time I see it I’ll smile rather than tear up. I <3 him

Vegas

Count me in for that tomorrow. I’m STOKED. We have a massive suite and an amazing group of people to fill it. Now I just need to finish my shopping. Yesterday I went to the mall in pursuit of gold shoes, but found none. I did buy another dress though lol. It’s cute, not quite this one but extremely similar:

Seriously though, must find shoes! So back to the mall I go tonight. If I’m not too tired I might also attempt to give myself a french mani. We’ll see. Pics of that will definitely get posted because it’s going to be one of two extremes: extremely awful and I will post it for laughs, or extremely amazing and I will post it for pride. haha I need coffee!

The Wiser Wedding

OK I’m going to start out by saying that I know this is long overdue and I know I should include photos, but I don’t have any with me. Also, I didn’t take many. I guess I’ll just add those later when the photographer gets it together and sends out the pics to the bride and groom ;)

Anyway, wedding. This was my very first experience being a bridesmaid. There’s quite a lot of work that goes into this title, and being one of only two made it an even bigger job. Can I just add that I packed a checked-luggage sized suitcase for the weekend? And that it was primarily filled with toiletries? LOL

So Friday was the rehearsal and dinner. It was the first I had seen of the venue, which was gorgeous. Although not in bloom yet, I’m sure the pictures turned out amazing! Rather than do a traditional rehearsal dinner, the bride and groom decided to book some lanes at a bowling alley so we could have some fun. I liked the idea, but let’s be honest – bowling = broken nails. That’s a bad situation. Also, since I’m crazy and work 3 jobs, I would have had to get my nails done on Monday and pray that they didn’t get messed up during the week. I wasn’t about to take my chances with that, so I got my nails done during the bowling and missed most of it. Oh well.

The groom’s parents got an amazing suite at a nearby hotel and stocked the kitchen with food and drink. While we worked on the last few things for the next day, we got to enjoy some delicious treats and a little champagne :) I’m definitely taking notes for my own wedding (which won’t happen for decades I’m sure), and this is getting added to the list: a suite with 2 bedrooms. When all is said and done let’s be honest: we all need space to get ready and a regular room isn’t enough. This had a total of 3 full bathrooms. Brilliant!

Zac Posen for Target

I ran into Target the other day to quickly grab some nail polish remover. Of course this is Target we’re talking about, a place where I typically buy more things than I need/should on any given shopping trip. Add to that my bereavement and it’s a recipe for disaster.

Literally the first thing I see when I walk in the store is this super cute dress. Then I realize it’s a preview of the new Zac Posen for Target line. So I start grabbing more things to try on. None of the other things worked out very well, so here I am with this $70 dress and a huge dilemma: to buy or not to buy.

I texted like 5 people to get an opinion. It was unanimous: buy the dress. I can always return it or sell (for a profit even?) on eBay. Ok fine. I’ll buy the dress. I’m still debating keeping it, but I really like it!

Thoughts?

Drumsticks

My sister and I told this story at my uncle’s memorial service yesterday. I’m not going to change it (I’m too lazy), so it’s in speech format. Whatever, you get the point :)

By far my favorite Angelo-related adventure!

A Quick Update

Life comes at you so fast and can take you in so many directions all at once. The past two weeks certainly have been no exception. I feel that all of these things deserve their own post, but I just wanted to give a quick update. My blogging will either speed up or fall off for a while. The last item on this update should provide a pretty good explanation. Anyway, these are the latest headlines:

  • Andrew and Rhianna got married. It was a beautiful ceremony and a super fun reception. It was also my first run at being a bridesmaid and it was a completely different experience than I had imagined.
  • My cousin got engaged. I’m totally stoked for him.
  • I went to the doctor (again) for my foot. After 2 MRIs and 2 appointments within 4 days, I finally have a clearer picture of what’s going on with Marla. There are 3 issues total in my one foot (ffffuuuu). It IS a tumor, but it’s not cancerous. Hopefully the painful cortisone shot I got will make this issue go away once and for all.
  • I took a small (but very eventful!) road trip last weekend with some wonderful ladies to attend Jess’s bridal shower. It was a lovely event. I won a prize too ;)
  • My great uncle went to the ER yesterday morning. He died today. It never really occurred to me prior to yesterday that when you say “great uncle” people kind of brush you off assuming this is a distant relative and it’s not a big deal. On the contrary, I was incredibly close to this man. My mom lost her father when she was 23. Angelo stepped in and became a second father to her, even walking her down the aisle at her wedding. I’m absolutely devastated.

There’s not really much else to say. It’s 4:45am and I can’t sleep. I can say this: I have the most amazing family and an incredible boyfriend. I know that while I’m crumbling into pieces I am loved and supported. We are a close knit group and this loss has brought us closer. For that I am grateful.

And now back to Boy Meets World. Because that seems to be the only thing on at this hour.

Antarctica Blog

I discovered this today:

Off to Antarctica

I’m super jealous. Definitely going to have to live vicariously through the stories and pictures until I can save up enough to go!

Italy

I’m pretty sure I already mentioned that I’m going to Italy. It’s getting closer, the planning is starting, and my level of excitement is getting exponentially higher!

Rome:  6 days. I’m so fortunate and stoked that I’ll be staying in seriously the nicest hotel I’ve ever seen: The Rome Cavalieri. I think that in the 6 days we’ll be there we should be able to do ALL of the touristy things and still have a day to enjoy the amazing spa facilities at the hotel. In reality this is a fast paced trip, but when  you have that at your disposal, you kind of have to take a day to slow down and unwind.

Florence: 4ish days. Definitely a side trip to Cinque-Terre. Maybe a side trip to Pisa if there’s time.

Naples: maybe 2 days? Really all we want to do in Naples is go to Pompeii. It doesn’t seem like there’s that much to do in Naples, so maybe there will be another day trip to one of the off-shore islands.

I’ve started learning a couple of key words, acqua being by far the most important. After all, it’s going to be hotter than hell. And I’ve experienced hell: Thailand in August, Paris and Catalonia in July. I’m probably going to spend half of my budget on acqua lol.

In terms of planning, I have my Frommer’s 2010 Italy, I have the recommendations of like a thousand relatives and friends, and I’ve recently discovered some cool sites on Italy: Why Go Italy and Life in Italy. I also have the Rosetta Stone Italian, and a guide book of key phrases that I can keep in my pocket. Rumor has it that I’m getting luggage for my birthday (I really want this in green, fingers crossed). I think I’m good to go!!

Marla Saga, Continued

At some point in the preferably near future, I would like for my foot to be fixed. I don’t think I’m asking too much.

Let’s quickly review the bullshit

~6 years ago: I noticed a “knot” in the arch of my foot. It didn’t go away despite all kinds of massages

~5 years ago: I ask my foot doctor about it. He tells me I have plantar fibromatosis. At the time it’s not really hurting, it’s just mostly a nuisance.

~4 years ago: I decide (jokingly) that I have a foot tumor. I name it Marla, after Fight Club.

~2ish years ago: Marla begins to cause some intense pain. It’s not horrible and mostly comes and goes with exercise/walking a lot. Being cheap, I decide to just deal with it.

This past year:

-The pain became unbearable after excessive walking or exercise
-I started getting charlie horse style cramps consuming my arch and toes
-Pain is now the norm so I suck it up and get a referral to a podiatrist (yes, I chose the HMO)
-Podiatrist tells me it’s plantar fascitis. He sends me for custom orthotics and physical therapy
-Physical therapists turn out to be sadists and I believe it is their mission to torture me. I had two of them over the course of 6 sessions and both told me they think I have a stress fracture in my foot. If the pain continues, go back for an x-ray. In the meantime, keep doing the stretches.

And now we’re at the present.

I was in a wedding on Saturday (post to follow soon!) and knew running around, especially in heels, would be taxing on Marla. I vowed to just get through it and then call the doctor the following week to schedule a routine x-ray. I called the doctor yesterday and somehow was able to get in the same day. Score!

Ok the doctor looked at my foot. Poked on THE spot, aka the CORE of Marla. Yeah, he made me cry. (more…)
