Employment!

Some of you already know I started my new job this week. But for those of you who don’t, yeah I recently went from being under-employed to over-employed.

I have 3 jobs.

We’ll call my original paid job “Job A”. My unpaid internship will be “Job B” and my new job will be “Job C”

I’m not sure what I was thinking, but I think I’m losing my mind. It’s been a week and I’m exhausted. I don’t want to go out. I just want to sleep. I work 11 hours 3 days a week, 12 hours 1 day, and a straight 8 the other. It’s long. I get home, eat dinner, and have time for maybe one TV show before getting ready for bed so I can do it all over again the next day. I haven’t been to the gym at all this week and I hate it. It’s especially bad because there’s so much candy at Job C.

I think the flaw with this plan is that 2 days a week I go from Job C to Job A to Job B. The other 3 days a week I only have to go into 2 places.

I’m not sure which is worse – under-employment and having no money, or over-employment and having no time or energy to do anything.

Maybe this week is an anomaly. After all, I was dealing with getting settled into the new job, dealing with all kinds of bullshit related to insurance companies and getting my car fixed post-accident, and figuring out loan repayments. And we all know how well I do with change LOL.

Hopefully next week is better. I worry I’m going to lose my mind. And that’s one thing I don’t care to lose.

eBay, Revisited

Ok I previously posted about how I was starting out on eBay and was having a blast. Granted, I’m still having a good time, but for crying out loud, I’ve been having the damnedest time trying to sell things the last couple of weeks.

First, I listed kind of a big item. It sold! I was pretty stoked. Too bad the person never paid me for it. Lame. So after contacting them twice and not receiving any response, I contacted eBay to get this shiz straightened out. This is still a work in progress. Wanting the item out of my house, I re-listed it. I put in the extra money to list it on a 10-day schedule, plus schedule it to end at a particular time. Hey – you gotta do what you gotta do to make some extra $$$!

So this time it’s up for a couple of days (well 2) and I get a question about it. Awesome. I also have 4 people watching it, with over 7 days to go. All of this seems promising. Then I got an email – my item SOLD!!! Score – the person did the Buy It Now option for like $90. That’s amazing.

Best Buy Blows

The title of this post pretty much sums up my current feelings toward this company. I know J is planning to buy a new, large television in the very near future, but I truly hope that he can find it somewhere else. They don’t deserve any more of our dollars.

Long story short, one of the hinges on my laptop was broken. It was incredibly irritating, but still I could not part with my computer for any length of time while it got repaired. Knowing I was going on a 3-week trip, I figured that would by my only opportunity to get this shiz fixed. For a variety of reasons, I was unable to deal with this myself. My dad is retired and loves doing projects to keep himself busy during the day. And by “projects” I have taken this to mean doing stuff for his lovely daughter :)

Search and Rescue: Mexican Edition

A couple of weekends ago some friends and I decided to take a mini road trip to San Diego for a 311 concert. Rather than just going down for the day, we decided to make a weekend trip out of it. Despite some obstacles along the way (like not having a place to stay until the day before hand, among other things!), once we got on the road everything was ok.

We got a really late start, so got in pretty late on Friday. We went straight to the Sandbar to help Sandy properly celebrate her birthday. The next day, we went on a pub crawl in PB to continue the celebration. Just as we were walking to the first stop, Brett got a call from another friend of ours. She was frantic, but since I wasn’t on the phone I had no idea why.

Turns out her mom went down into the deep cuts of Mexico to visit some family, and forgot her Green Card. Not thinking this was a big deal, she had her daughter – my friend – fax a copy down to her. The Mexican travel authorities said this was not sufficient. So Meli went to the airport where her mom would be arriving, and gave them the Green Card to scan into the system. But again, the airline in Mexico said this was not sufficient either. Next idea: just sneak over the border. Apparently that family has been doing it for years lol. But that wasn’t an option either. After all, she can’t be her risking her legal status by doing something stupid like that.

eBay Update

I have previously discussed how I’m incredibly late to the party and only just recently discovered eBay. Well….I listed a bunch of stuff and I’m SO happy with the results! Stuff I was going to just dump ended up getting me some extra $$$ for the summer, and that’s always appreciated. I definitely still have room to improve, but this is so fun! I think I’m gonna become an eBay addict….

eBay

I’m absolutely flabbergasted by the shit that people will buy on eBay!! After completing my major spring cleaning project, I was left with an assortment of random shit. People kept telling me to list it on eBay and make some extra $$ for the summer, so I finally gave it a shot.

OMG – it’s crazy! People will buy my used bathing suits, all sorts of shoes, and other miscellaneous stuff that I had labeled as “crap.” They’ll even take old CD’s I don’t listen to anymore. This is amazing!! I find myself wondering how in the world I have never utilized this resource in the past.

One thing makes me sad though – my VCR falls into the category of “vintage electronics”… granted I got that thing probably 10-12 years ago, but since when did 10 years = vintage?!?

Dream Vacation

Just for shits and giggles I periodically look at cruise itineraries to Antarctica and South America. It’s my dream vacation, and I hope to actually book one of these trips some day. It’s a bit of a balancing act though: wait til I have enough money (these trips are usually $8,000+ per person!) but do it soon enough that the ice hasn’t melted. Anyway, the one itinerary that consistently wins for me is this one, on the Hurtigruten – MS Fram ship through the Cruise Norway line:

Day 1: Depart the US

Day 2: Arrive in Buenos Aires

Day 3: Buenos Aires/Ushuaia

Day 4: At sea

Day 5-6: Falkland Islands/Malvinas

Day 7-8: At Sea

Day 9-10: South Georgia

Day 11: At Sea

Day 12: South Orkneys

Day 13-16: Antarctica

Day 17-18: Drake Passage

Day 19: Ushuaia

Day 20: Buenos Aires

Basically I want this to be me: lim_penguinscl

In fact, I think I would shit a brick if I got to get that close to a bunch of penguins in real life!

Of course I would have to extend this trip to go sightseeing all around Buenos Aires and Chile. I mean, it’s not like I’m down in that region all that frequently! This vacation is seriously the vacation of a lifetime…does someone wanna book it for me?!
