New Cypress Hill

Only heard this song once and am already in love with it: Rise Up by Cypress Hill, featuring Tom Morello on guitar. Their new album comes out on April 20 (of course it does – it is Cypress Hill after all!), and I might have to download it.

In the meantime, enjoy this:

Torvill & Dean: Still My Favorite

I love figure skating. When I was a kid I used to pretend I was a figure skater and spin around on the kitchen floor in my socks. It’s something I myself am not very good at, which makes it even more spectacular to watch. I mean they do these crazy jumps and spins and the footwork too. Even just watching them FLY from one end of the rink to the other is cool. Pairs is pretty awesome, but we already know how I felt about this years pairs competition. So in the meantime while I wait for the ladies’ singles, I had my ice dancing.

Not going to lie, ice dancing is notoriously my least favorite of the 4 varieties. Especially the compuslory dance. I think those judges have their work cut out for them. Just watching people do the same thing over and over again is too much for me, much less evaluating each competitor’s. No thank you!! The original dance can be interesting. There were a couple this year that intrigued me. Of course there was also the one that confused the hell out of me – the Russians doing the Aboriginal Dance. Take a lack of impressive/challenging moves, combined with some RIDICULOUS looking costumes and a premise that already has people offended, and you get this. Seriously, WTF?!

But then last night we got to the free skate. It’s by far my favorite. I saw a few that I liked. Even two that I loved. These of course were Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir’s (Canada) dance to Symphony #5 and Emily Samuelson and Evan Bates’ (USA) dance to Canto Della Terra. Beautiful. Stunning. Amazing.

But still not my all-time favorite.

That award goes to Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean (UK), who were the first people to get all perfect 6.0’s in the artistic impression section of the old scoring system. For technical merit they were split 5.9/6.0. I’m not sure what it is about this dance, but I love it. Even though it’s from 1984 and the picture is horribly grainy, I could watch it over and over again. Maybe it’s the music, maybe it’s the artistry, maybe it’s the incredible synchronization. I don’t know. They start on the ground because their music was too long. Apparently it exceeded the length by 18 seconds, which they discovered they could get around if none of their skates hit the ice until 18 seconds in. Pure perfection. Here it is:

Jackass

Usually it’s great to have the president talking about you. I guess not if you’re Kanye West.

Imagine this:

“Oh yeah, the president was talking about me!? What did he say”

“He called you a jackass”

LOL

Snacks and Shit

I was recently introduced to a website called snacksandshit. And it’s amazing. Like, I cannot stop reading it amazing.

Basically these guys just listen to rap songs and make posts that highlight the stupidest things rappers say. Sometimes they make literal interpretations, sometimes they provide pretty hilarious commentary, and sometimes they simply don’t need to say anything. Like this one:

“Don’t holler at me unless money is the topic”
- Nipsey Hussle, Hussle Is My Last Name

Friend: Hey what time is it?
Nipsey: What did we talk about?
Friend: Oh, that’s right. Sorry. Umm… What time is it right now at the bank?
Nipsey: Ten after two.

LOL

Or this one:

“If you wanted to ride my nuts that bad, you should’ve asked me, mang”
- Lil Wyte, Dangerous Posse by Three 6 Mafia

Can you imagine asking someone this?
“Hey Lil Wyte, can I ride your nuts? I want to really badly.”

Pretty much this is my current favorite website. Thanks Mel for the entertainment!! Adding it to my links right now!!

If It Kills Me

We’ve already established that I’m totally obsessed with So You Think You Can Dance. This isn’t news. However, tonight I was very pleasantly surprised by the episode that popped up in my TiVo. Apparently Season 6 starts next week (hooray!) and as a segway into that, Nigel Lythgoe came on and hosted a show with his 15 favorite dances. Basically it was his top 5 per season.

There were some classics I had forgotten about:

*Courtney and Mark dancing to “The Garden”, choreographed by Sonya – it was so strange, but that’s why I LOVED it (watch)

*Neil and Sabra dancing to “Sweet Dreams”, as choreographed by Mandy Moore (watch)

As well as classics I hadn’t forgotten about:

*Kayla and Kipono dancing Mia Michels piece on addiction to “Gravity” (watch)

*Mark and Chelsea dancing to “Bleeding Love” as choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon (watch)

But of course my favorite routine of this season was with Jeanine and Jason, dancing to Jason Mraz’s “If It Kills Me”. OMG so beautiful. And passionate. And everything else. Definitely glad it made it into the top 15:

MJ

Omg I can’t believe Michael Jackson died! A mobile post will hardly do him justice but I felt like I had to say something about it. Just when he had managed to successfully lay low for an extended period of time and not get publicity for all of the weird things that was Michael Jackson, and just when there was talk of a 2010 comeback tour, he drops dead. At only 50 years old that makes it even more of a tragedy. I must say I am truly shocked and saddened by this event. It was truly NOT the email I had expected to read from J this morning.

I have had his songs in my head all day.

“Billie Jean is not my lover….She’s just a girl who says that I am the one …But the kid is not my son”

Farewell MJ.

New Toy

I just received a totally AWESOME gift this weekend….the purple iPod Nano!!! I already have so many songs and CDs on my iTunes, but now I am compulsively uploading all my other CDs so my new iPod can have a complete music compilation. It’s taking forever but I don’t care. Plus I’m sure I’ll appreciate my efforts later this summer when I’m on one of my many plane rides. This totally rocks!! :)

Thanks J ♥

Manson

Lately I’ve been on a Marilyn Manson kick. I’ve always loved him and own most of his albums, but I’ve just been in the mood for some angry music lately. And what could be better than some Marilyn Manson? I definitely also appreciate that the Circus tour included Manson’s cover of Sweet Dreams. Fucking GREAT!

He has a new album coming out May 26, We’re from America. It’s gonna be great. He’s touring, and there is a very large piece of me that wants to find a show this summer, but there’s also an equal sized part of me that is scared of what might transpire at a Marilyn Manson concert. It will be under consideration for the time-being!

Summertime

As summer quickly approaches, I find myself getting more and more excited. Of course I have that totally awesome trip to go on, but to make it extra sweet I’m going to at least 5 different concerts. It’s going to be fantastic!!

Of course there’s Miss Britney and her Circus, a local radio station summer music festival (well I don’t know about festival, but it’s going to be spectacular),  No Doubt, 311, and this just in – Green Day just announced a tour! If I can find the funds I’m also going to add Tool, Kings of Leon, and Metallica to that list. I can’t freaking wait!! :)

If anyone hears of any others, I’m probably down. Some of these are road trips, so clearly I’m willing to make the drive to see an awesome band!
