American Museum of Natural History

J and I could have easily spent the entire day here. It was THAT amazing. I had heard that the dinosaur exhibit was a must-see, so we headed there first, after we wasted our time in some movie. First and foremost, this movie was called something along the lines of “The Great Ocean” or whatever, which led me to believe it would be about, you know, the ocean. Fact: this movie should have been called “Sardines in South Africa” because it was actually just about the sardine farming practices in South Africa, and the ways in which sardines have evolved to survive attackers. I mean it was interesting, but not what I had paid to see.

Anyway, back on topic. Dinosaurs. They were just as great as I had hoped. Lots of fossils, plus they even had dinosaur eggs! I had never seen one, so this was pretty cool.

The Big Unit

The Big Unit, aka Randy Johnson.

I absolutely love this guy. He’s 6’10 and incredibly lanky – super awkward to say the least. Yet he’s 45 years old and just 2 wins away from 300 Major League wins. Now that is talent. It was really sad to see him taken out of the game tonight against the Marlins (his former team) and go on to earn the loss. Hopefully things get better for this guy. I am definitely all about seeing history be made!

If nothing else, he’ll always be my hero for defying the laws of nature and exploding a bird with a fastball. Seriously, what are the chances?

Disneyland

Nothing is better than a random trip to the Magic Kingdom! Sadly I couldn’t be with my niece this time and witness the shear joy that is being a toddler at your Mecca. Oh well. On the bright side, the park was surprisingly empty for it being a weekend in Spring. I <3 short lines! I also learned some interesting things. For instance

♦ Disneyland pays $10,000 per day on their fireworks show. 10 grand!! It amazes me.

♦ During this performance the person who is dressed as Tinkerbell and flying through the air receives an extra $5 “hazard pay” because she is more than 13 feet off the ground. I don’t know, but that doesn’t really seem worth it.

♦ The current fireworks show is being phased out on June 12. They’re replacing it with an all new one that includes a flying Dumbo. I don’t know about you, but I’m incredibly excited at the prospect of seeing someone dressed as an elephant, hanging from a wire more than 13 feet above the ground. I sincerely hope they don’t make it a projected image. I am grateful that I got to see the current show one last time before it leaves.

And on another note, I did see some people protecting themselves from Swine Flu (or maybe protecting us from their infectious disease?):

sars

Really, what’s not to like about a SARS mask? LOL

Damon vs. Palin

This is an oldie, but it has come up in coversation several times this week so I felt the need to share. I love the authenticity Matt Damon shows in his shocked, appauled, horrified and just astounded words and facial expressions. It’s great.

Enjoy! And let’s follow McCain the next 3.75 years and see if she would have ended up President Palin!

LPSG

*Disclaimer…the link in this post is probably not safe for work*

Last night while bored, high on vicodin, and just screwing around online, I stumbled upon www.lpsg.org. Yes ladies and gentlemen, an online support group exists for men with large penises. I never would have guessed that such a thing would be needed, much less have such a large membership! Some of the topics are definitely entertaining, like “discrimination” (again, who knew this was a problem?). Anyway, maybe it’s the meds, but I found this site entertaining as hell. Definitely worth a look if you’re bored or interested in the subject matter.

I guess this just goes to show that there truly is a support group out there for everyone.

Up close….

I don’t know what I would think if I saw a plane came rollin down my street!

Utah

I’ve arrived in Utah. So far so good. First impressions:

♦It isn’t nearly as cold as I thought/wanted it to be

♦There is still some snow on the ground, which is awesome. I picked some up once I arrived at my hotel, just cuz I haven’t touched snow in a long time lol

♦I had about a 45 minute ride in a shuttle from the airport to my hotel. I was the only passenger on the shuttle, and when the driver started talking (“UUUUUUM” came out of his mouth every 5 seconds), I was a bit worried. He did have some interesting stories though, particularly the ENTIRE history of the Donner party. Apparently they went around some mountains that we passed. He also informed me of the more “scandelous” days this town has seen. I didn’t believe him at first. I mean, we are talking about UTAH. He said he doesn’t talk to Utah natives about that stuff, cuz they just don’t want to hear it. He was definitely entertaining.

♦Apparently there is a microbrewery down the street from my hotel, along with a couple of other places that look like bars. I was under the impression that drinking was pretty rare in this state, and that to get into such an establishment you have to have a membership. Granted I haven’t tried to get in, but from the looks of it, maybe that’s not the case. At least not on this “risqué” street haha

♦My room doesn’t seem to have actual curtains, just the sheers. I guess that means I won’t be walking around naked in here. Sad.

That’s about it for now. Kelsey and Josh should be done with their baby class soon and tomorrow I am going to do some sight seeing. I will definitely update for any mormon experiences. It should be interesting!

Talk About Irony!

This woman is a neurologist at Harvard, and several of years ago she had a stroke. Bad luck, irony, a chance to see her studies from a whole new angle — call it what you want. Here’s her TED talk about her experience.
