Changed Conditions Ahead

After dinner last night, Mario, Brett and I decided to walk off some of our food. We headed for a hilly residential area and immediately noticed this sign.

WTF? What are the changes? Is it hazardous? This sign tells me nothing, except of course “photograph me” :)

Waterboarding

Today I was a victim of this method of torture.

I was scheduled for a pelvic ultra-sound to rule out a cyst. Apparently this requires that you drink 4 glasses of water before the exam. FOUR.

I was pretty thirsty when I woke up this morning, so the first 2 weren’t bad. But let me tell you, that fourth glass was pretty torturous!!

On the bright side, this is kick-starting my pre-hydration for Texas this weekend. Unless I pee it all out in the next hour.

Mingle Monday

Yes, I’m aware it’s Thursday, but…..

I just discovered this great idea by Meg. Basically she started a story and it continues in the comments. What a fabulous idea for finding new blogs and getting more traffic to your own!!

Thanks for the innovation Meg. I just started following your blog and I already LOVE it!

GIANT Kat

I don’t know about you, but I’m a huge fan of the Kit Kat. I was totally stoked when they came out with the Big Kat, cuz really – it’s one gigantic Kit Kat stick, and only good things can come from that. Well here’s some guys that came up with an idea to make a truly GIANT Kit Kat stick. The pictures speak for themselves. Also check out the nutrition info at the bottom. These guys are my new heroes!

3 Wheeler

Why have I seen an increasing number of 3-wheeled vehicles on the street lately? Seriously though, who are these people that drive these things? I am forced to wonder what would possess someone to get one, and these are the only ideas I could think of:

  • Techy guy who wants to create his own “gadget”
  • A modern recessionista – let’s face it: buying 3 new tires is cheaper than buying 4!
  • Someone who wanted to ride a motorcycle but was afraid of being hit by a car
  • Old guy who decides he wants to go back to the “good ol’ days” when real cars didn’t exist

I cannot think of a single other reason why someone would drive this

Also, the state of California requires that all persons riding in a vehicle with less than 4 wheels wear a helmet. I mean you look ridiculous either way, but adding a driver with a helmet to this equation just makes it a million times better.

The Holy See

I’ve been planning various details for my upcoming Italy adventure and realized I should probably buy tickets well ahead of time to get into the Vatican Museums. Turns out I’m too early, but while I was on the site, I decided to check out the other stuff the Vatican has to offer. That’s when I found it: the most unfortunate thing I have ever seen in my life.

The home page of the Vatican website has a link called “Abuse of Minors: The Church Response

Really?!?

Is this such a prevalent issue that there’s a link to a statement on the home page of their website? Let’s get it together dudes. How about you all just STOP MOLESTING KIDS? Seems easy enough!

While I’m on my soapbox I feel the need to throw out there why I believe the Catholic Church has this problem in the first place. Priests aren’t allowed to get married. I feel like that invites pedophiles to join because no one even questions why they’re not in a relationship. It’s unfortunate too, because there are a lot of people who join the priesthood for honest reasons.

Maybe you’re wondering why Catholic priests are required to be celibate in the first place. That’s a bullshit reason too. Turns out that during the Crusades the Church wanted to acquire as much land as they could. Married priests usually had sons, and when they died, all their property was passed to their sons. As a way of gaining land, the church banned priests from marrying and even voided existing marriages. This gave them full inheritance rights!

So here’s my solution: let these priests marry. I think it would improve the overall composition of the priesthood. Namely, there would be less pedophiles.

2012 Olympic Mascots

It’s pretty well known that weird things transpire at the Olympics. I mean, the opening ceremonies in France included naked women wearing snow-globes after all! So it’s pretty safe to say that the unexpected should be expected.

Then you look at the Mascots for the 2012 Olympics in London.

What in the world is going on here? It’s like Gumby had a threesome with Rainbow Brite and Leela from Futurama.

Fire & Rain

Pandora just selected this song to go with my “Simon & Garfunkel” station.

Seems pretty appropriate actually; today marks one month since my uncle died. I’ve been thinking about him a lot lately. I wish I could have spent just one more Sunday with him, playing dominoes and eating delicious sandwiches. I always thought I’d see him again soon. Not so much.

Thanks James Taylor.

Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone
Suzanne the plans they made put an end to you
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
I just can’t remember who to send it to

I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain
I’ve seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I’ve seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I’d see you again

Won’t you look down upon me, Jesus
You’ve got to help me make a stand
You’ve just got to see me through another day
My body’s aching and my time is at hand
And I won’t make it any other way

Oh, I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain
I’ve seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I’ve seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I’d see you again

Been walking my mind to an easy time my back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows it’ll turn your head around
There’s hours of time on the telephone line to talk about things to come
Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground

Oh, I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain
I’ve seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I’ve seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I’d see you, baby, one more time again, now

Thought I’d see you one more time again
There’s just a few things coming my way this time around, now
Thought I’d see you, thought I’d see you fire and rain, now

Walmart Bingo

I’m going to Austin next month and one of the things I’m most excited about is Walmart Bingo: The game played by fellow Walmart shoppers. Its like traditional Bingo but instead of letters or numbers you use the bizzare oddities of nature and trailer parks that can only be discovered within the confines of your local Walmart.

To play: google images, pick a few, print them for members of your group, and go have fun in Walmart.

(click to see the whole thing)

This is actually a rather tame card, but I’m lazy. Anyway, I’ll let you know what all I find ;)

Bad Habits

I decided over the weekend that it’s time to start breaking bad habits. I don’t even know where to begin listing these habits, but I know where to start: locking my car door with the “lock” button inside the car instead of using the button on the remote.

I got into said habit pretty recently. I inevitably have WAY too many things to carry (lunch, coffee, water, purse, etc) on my way into work that I just don’t have enough hands. So I found the fastest way to solve this problem: turn off the car, put keys in bag, grab all of my crap, lock the door from inside the car, get out, close door, walk away.

I knew this would bite me in the ass one day, but I chose to do it anyway. It’s even become a regular thing now, even when I don’t have a ton of crap to carry. BAD IDEA!

So here I am on Saturday morning, running late as always, trying to find parking in the city. Found a spot – SCORE! Of course I had a backpack, a gift, and a box of bagels to deal with. I also had to come up with change to feed the meter.

For some stupid reason, I decided I would feed the meter THEN grab all my stuff from the passenger seat. Only I put my keys in my backpack, opened the door, LOCKED IT, then got out and closed the door behind me. As soon as it shut I knew I had just done something stupid.

So here I am, running late to a pot luck brunch on a warm day, now with perishables locked in my car. I called AAA and wouldn’t you know it – they can’t find me in the system. After 15 minutes she finally just said “Well you can show your card when the truck arrives. Now where are you?”

I tell her, only to have her say “Oh well that’s a problem. I’m going to have to transfer you to another number that handles calls in that area.”

Are you fucking kidding me?!? Turns out the number on the card is the number for HALF of California. You’re stuck in the other half? Yeah there’s a different number for that. One that’s not printed on my card.

About 45 minutes later I got into my car. What a pain in the ass. Breaking this habit starting today!!
